Even though you see it every so often, knowing that there's some kind of hindrance when you do use it (aka no cool shiny thing) gives players plenty of reason to feel fine skipping over it. I think the satisfaction of beating a level without it is there still, even for skilled players. I think at this point my opinion has almost completely changed for the gold leaf.
Your score is also cleared when you use the gold leaf, as well as the stars on your profile no longer being shiny for that level. I think that's fantastic that there's a reward for veteran players, though I still think having the choice of toggling it on/off would be a nice feature.ĮDIT 2: I also made the mistake that green stars are not optional, since they're required to continue.
